David Beckham

David Robert Joseph Beckham naît le 2 mai 1975 à Leytonstone (Londres). Il pratique le football très tôt et signe son premier contrat de footballeur professionnel le 8 juillet 1991 avec Manchester United.

En mars 1999, sa compagne, la Spice Girl Victoria Adams donne naissance au premier enfant du couple, Brooklyn. Le petit garçon a été prénommé ainsi en raison du lieu où il a été conçu. Leur second fils se prénomme Romeo. Quatre mois après la naissance de Brooklyn, le couple se marie en grandes pompes.

David Beckham est un joueur très talentueux. Il devient le capitaine de l'équipe nationale et est très apprécié du public et de la gent féminine. Au Japon, il est un Dieu vivant. Il est autant célèbre pour ses contrats publicitaires mirifiques que pour ses exploits sur le terrain. Il devient incontestablement l'icône d'une génération et fait autant parler de lui dans les pages people des magazines que dans les pages sportives.

The England football captain furiously hit back at the personal onslaught in mass circulation tabloid Bild, describing it as a lowly attempt to shake his team's morale. He said: "When it comes to my family that is one thing I won't accept and never will. "I find it sad that one person drops to the level of criticising my family, but it is one sad person thinking of what they can do to put me off my next game." The article attacked his sister Joanna for being "fat", joked that his sons Romeo and Brooklyn were "dwarves" and described his mother Sandra as having the smile of a "peasant" Sports journalist Tobias Holtkamp insists he was being humorous when he wrote the article. He said: "It was meant to be funny and should not have been taken so seriously. "The English translation makes it sound much worse than I intended." David - who is married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham - was careful to emphasise his quarrel is with Holtkamp not the German people. He added: "This is not about my anger with the German people - it is with one person."

Brooke Shields: Tom Cruise Apologized

Tom Cruise apologized to Brooke Shields for criticizing her antidepressant use, the actress said Friday on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.


On Thursday, Cruise "came over to my house and he gave me a heartfelt apology," Shields, 41, told Leno. "And he apologized for bringing me into the whole thing and for everything that happened.

"And through it all, I was so impressed with how heartfelt it was. And I didn't feel at any time that I had to defend myself, nor did I feel that he was trying to convince me of anything other than the fact that he was deeply sorry. And I accepted it."

Cruise's rep, Arnold Robinson, told the Associated Press in a statement, "It is true that his friendship with Ms. Shields has been mended. He has not changed his position about antidepressants, which, as evidenced by the black label warnings issued by the FDA on these types of drugs, are unhealthy."

Last summer, Cruise for told Matt Lauer on the Today show that Shields should not have taken medication to combat postpartum depression after the birth of her first child, daughter Rowan. Cruise insisted depression could be treated by "vitamins and exercise."

Shields responded with an op-ed piece in the New York Times in which she wrote, "I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Mr. Cruise has never suffered from postpartum depression."

A week ago, Kathleen Kennedy, who co-produced Cruise's War of the Worlds, told CNN's Showbiz Tonight that Cruise probably "feels bad" about criticizing Shields, although she had no first-hand knowledge of his feelings.

Cruise has been under fire since Viacom chief Sumner Redstone said Paramount Studios had severed ties with the actor because his recent conduct "has not been acceptable."
